Disney Resorts of Disney Vacation Club

Being a member of Disney Vacation Club means subscribing to a prepaid vacation system and allows you to benefit from the club members advantages when booking on Disney Resorts.

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is a form of vacation ownership created in 1991 and is based on a points system.

How it works

It is a prepaid vacation system. Besides valuable advantages, you are safe from devaluation.

To become a club memeber, you buy some vacation points -- the minimum is 150 -- and thus gain "ownership" of a vacation at your choice (from the eligible Disney resorts listed below). Buying these points you pay in advance for your future vacations for a period of time. The program -- and your member status -- ends on January 31, 2042. For the new Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa the end of the program is on January 31, 2054.

It is good to know:

  • The same amount of points as that purchased in the beginning will be automatically alloted to you every year and you can spend it at your choice -- that is you can choose the time, the duration, the resort -- within your points limitations.

For example, a one-bedroom unit will be less points than a two-bedroom one and one week during peak season will be worth considerably more points than one week during other periods of time.

  • However you may acquire more points, if necessary, paying for the extras.
  • You may lend/sell your points to non-members of the Club.
  • You can use your points within one year from the date of purchase. However, you can resort to the banking and borrowing policies, namely storing left points to the next year or borrowing from the points of the next year. Banking is allowed within time limits. No more than three years of points can be combined at any one time.
  • The value of the points differs with the resort you chose.
  • The resort at which you initially buy your points is your "home resort". It offers you the advantage of booking 11 months ahead, vs. 7 months ahead to book on another property. The five months allow owners at a specific resort to book their vacation before it becomes available to all DVC members.
  • The current price ranges from $84 per point to $95 per point. There are some annual dues to be paid, the amount of which varies with the amount of points owned. Purchasing through the Disney Vacation Club (rather than a resale agent) implies no closing costs and offers the possibility of a payment by installment.

Disney Vacation Club Resorts:

Notes

As a member of Disney Vacation Club you may chose from any of these Disney resorts.

You don't necessarily have to be a Vacation Club member to book a room in these resorts.

For non-members of the Vacation club, housekeeping is daily.

Advantages for the owner:

  • Choice freedom. Owners have the flexibility to travel whenever they wish, as often as they want, for however long they want. The size unit is at their choice also.
  • Special benefits -- such as park admission discounts, reduced greens fees at golf courses etc.
  • Member Services -- such as free assistance with vacation planning.

Disadvantages:

  • Planning. You have to plan ahead your vacation, you cannot decide to go whenever you feel like it. Thus you can also put your points at best use.
  • Housekeeping. Is available for members every four days. Is available daily at request upon a fee.
  • Price. It requires a lot of money in the beginning. However, calculating the yearly costs for the whole membership period, it comes cheaper than regular costs.
